Excerpts from Wilbur and Mary Thatcher's Collection of Memories

Today's blog from my Mom and Dad's collection of memories is a Certification for Temporary Non-Agricultural Employment approved by the Local Board No. 1 Wayne County during WWII for my Grandpa Homer Michael.

During this time there was a shortage of farm workers due to the war effort so labor was controlled. There were two main prisoner of war camps in Iowa at the time that provided some labor relief. One was located near Algona Iowa the other near Clarinda Iowa. In addition, there were around a dozen satellite camps where prisoners were deployed for specific assignments. Another government program to help with the labor shortage was called Bracero, which was an agreement with Mexico to provide labor in the USA.
